Clearlakes Chorale presents Messiah as its Winter 2017 Concert, on Saturday, December 9 at 7:30 PM and again on Sunday, December 10 at 2:00 PM. The concert will include all Part the First and the majority of Part the Second and Part the Third for chorus, soloists and orchestra.
One of the most beloved
oratorios, Messiah is traditionally performed at
Christmas, beginning with the prophecies of and story of Jesus'
birth. Less commonly performed, the work continues with the
Passion story, which culminates with the Hallelujah
chorus. The resurrection of the dead and Christ's
glorification in heaven is the subject of the final section.
Messiah was composed
by George Frideric Handel from a libretto written by Charles Jennen.
Handel, considered to be one of the greatest composers of the
Baroque era, was German-born, although he spent the bulk of his
career in London.
